Social Innovation Summit 2016 to Bring Together Tech, Philanthropy

Technology and social action will converge at the Social Innovation Summit in Washington, D.C., next month, and BizTech will provide full coverage.

How does technology intersect with investment, philanthropy, international development and social justice? It’s a complicated question with numerous answers, and the BizTech reporting team will be in Washington, D.C., June 7-8 for the Social Innovation Summit 2016 to explore those connections.

Despite taking place over two days — or perhaps because of it — the conference’s agenda is brimming with keynote sessions, panels, discussions and networking events. The conference will explore a wide range of issues, including the pace of innovation, the convergence of technology and medicine, how business values are changing, the power of technology to curb online harassment, and how tech can impact food security, among many others.

The event promises a bevy of high-profile speakers who are at the nexus of technology and social good, including Mary Snapp, corporate vice president of Microsoft Philanthropies; David Wilkinson, the director of the Office of Social Innovation and Civic Participation at the White House; Mike Masserman, director of federal and international government relations for ride-sharing service Lyft; Samia Melhem, the World Bank’s global lead for digital development; Kathleen McLaughlin, president of the Walmart Foundation; and even Daniel Ruettiger, the Notre Dame football player whose life story inspired the film "Rudy."

Melhem and Paul Arnpriester, manager of technology strategy at CDW, will be on a panel about how tech can be used for social good, which speaks to the heart of the conference.
